Our Visit to Center for Puppetry Arts: The Adventures of Mighty Bug

Center for Puppetry Arts: The Adventures of Mighty Bug

Atlanta is very fortunate to have the Center for Puppetry Arts! We had one of Connor’s preschool birthdays there over 10 years ago {he’s almost 16 now!}, and it is just as special now as it was then.

I’m an avid believer in exposing my kids as much as possible to theatre, arts and raw creativity. It opens their mind in immeasurable ways. When it comes to that exposure during the preschool years, I think the Center for Puppetry Arts might be one of my very favorites.

For our visit this week, the audience was filled with elementary-age children that could not contain their laughter during most of the show. Other than a traveling theatre group at her preschool last year, Ella had not experienced the wonderment of a live performance such as The Adventures of Mighty Bug! It was awesome to see her excitement over the shadow puppets and comic book-like action + suspense.

The insect trivia may have been a little over her head, but the storyline with the evil arachnid Scorpiana trying to take over the city of Bugville was not! We were both cheering on the hero and heroine Mighty Bug and Morpha {the butterfly}.

You can tell the performers are very passionate about what they do. Kids can relate to that and learn from it! Learn more about these actors here.

After the show, we toured the puppet museum which is quite impressive as far as museums are concerned. Ella loved seeing Coraline amongst the displays, she’s seen it many times.

Totally enthralled with the visuals and interactive shadow puppets.

Then we headed upstairs for E to make her very own puppet that glows in the dark. There was a lovely lady in there to help her along and make the puppet come to life in the dark {after E added the specially requested pink eyelashes and bow to it of course}!

We had such a fun morning. I highly recommend checking out this show or one to your liking very soon!
