After I dropped the boys at camp I went back to Houston to spend a few days with my grandmother (aka: Momsie) recovering from knee surgery. I was glad for the time to be there with her. A few days before Ella and I were supposed to return to Atlanta, Mr. T said he needed to be in San Diego for work and why didn’t I think about joining him for a few days?!
After a little finagling, we lined up my mother in law and two sitters to be with Ella and headed to the West Coast.
The stay
Since Mr. T is a Hilton devotee we chose the one closest to the water. They have another location in downtown, but the one on the water is so close to downtown via uber (or even walking) that I was glad we went with the water views.

If you’re looking to indulge a little, I highly recommend Hotel Del Coronado. It’s located just across the bridge in Coronado. We made a day trip over to this amazing, celebrated hotel to take in the views and lay on the beach for the afternoon. This hotel was built in 1888 and is considered a National Historic Landmark (read the full history here). The lobby is lavish and full of rich woodworking detail – we were completely in awe.

There are lots of fun hotels in the area with great rooftop views and eats – it would be hard to go wrong at any of them. We sure did love the water views though!
To do
First of all, it feels like you get a little more vacationing in when you fly from East coast to West coast with the time difference #justsayin! We grabbed a cocktail by the hotel pool then hopped on a pedi-cab to see some of the sights along the water. I heart pedi-cabs by the way!

That night we cruised the historic Gas Lamp quarter to people-watch, grab some dinner and hit one of the amazing roof top bars.

The next day we ubered to La Jolla for a kayak tour of the caves (about a 15-20 drive from our hotel). This was probably my favorite thing we did. I wore this for the ride over to have some lunch before changing into workout clothes for the kayak tour.

I was a little nervous about the freezing water, but once we got past the waves it was nothing. We had an excellent tour guide from this spot, I highly recommend them. The sea lions hang out all along the caves and are so stinkin adorable.

That night we grabbed drinks and bites at George’s in La Jolla. I’m certain the views are amazing, but it was dark by the time we arrived. Please excuse the nasty hair in this pic – we crashed into a wave on the way in from kayaking and the hotel was too far to go shower/change!
