In thompson travels

weekend at montego bay

Montego Bay did not disappoint! We arrived on Thursday after a short 2.5-hour flight from Atlanta and went straight to scoping out the property and making dinner reservations. That night we ate at one of the on-site restaurants and both of us were super impressed at how wonderful and fresh the food was. The all-inclusive concept is new to us and I think we had low expectations.

These hammocks + palms everywhere had me at hello.

Our room was on the first floor so we could just step outside and be on the beach. Friday we rented a cabana and pretty much laid around in it all day after a quick morning jog. Cabanas come with a dedicated server stopping by regularly to bring food and drinks-um…yes please!

Some of the sights on our morning jog around the golf course.

I wore this fun Trina Turk outfit to dinner that night. It is a perfect beach look. I’m thinking this stripe boatneck tee would be cute with the floral skirt for a more professional look.

Our waiter snapped this pic, and we have him to thank for the cheesy holding-hand situation {wink}. Shortly after this pic was taken the mosquitos started eating us alive so we had to move our party of two inside.

I found this book on Connor’s summer reading list and oh-my is it good. There is no getting through it without a few tears but it is so powerful. It’s a true story about a successful career woman and her unlikely, life-long friendship with a boy panhandling on the streets of New York. In order to understand their remarkable friendship, Schroff takes us through her own story of an abusive father and how she and her four siblings clung to one another to survive their childhood. Her mother, with no hope of escaping his wrath due to familial and societal pressures, is such a beautiful testament to a mother’s love of her children. I’m excited for Connor to read it.

Saturday we woke up early for snorkeling. I have only been snorkeling at Disney’s water park {not quite the same}. Being out there in the waves was a little too much for me and I got sick. Other than that, and the fact that I was sure at any moment a shark was going to bite my foot off – it was fun and I stuck it out. Honestly, I think the boat ride there and back was my favorite part. I’d like to give snorkeling another try in more shallow waters. Later Saturday afternoon we got a couple’s stone massage, and that, my friends, was utterly amazing. I wore a Mara Hoffman number to dinner that night {sadly no good pics…another time}. Mara Hoffman makes resort-wear easy.

We finally had postcards from the boys when we got home Sunday! They seem like they’re having a blast. This is one of my favorite pics from the camp website.

Sunday afternoon at home we enjoyed our last few hours of no children with a long nap and Mellow Mushroom takeout…pretty good end to a great weekend.
